Eat the Rich: Frankenstein's Modern Monster

Inks so far. I wanted to set a cyborg monster against the traditional backdrop and typical marauding villagers. There’s something about the juxtaposition of old and new that twists the original narrative enough for me to find it worth revisiting!

I diverged a bit from my original intent with the torches and pitchfork. It’s a risk to veer away from your pencils, but I think the end result (so far) is looking good. The background elements will be outline-less and largely consisting of color punched out of the negative space; they’ll be more defined during coloring.

I’m aiming for an end result like this older piece of mine:

Soul Pollution

The brief calls for a three color final image. I intend to use the shirt color to my full advantage making it seem like a four color design.

Cool Frankenstein, Ray. My one critique would be that with the current size of the torches and pitchfork in front of him, the perspective and context makes Frank seem really tiny.

Hi – Great stuff! I surfed in trying to find anyone using Manga Studio for their work. I found your blog from back in April that you were trashing MS and switching to Painter. These latest images look an awful lot like they were done in MS though. Were the patches or the latest version of the software good enough to return to MS? I actually just reviewed MS EX 3.0 in my latest blog (I just started using it and am operating it on an XP machine from 2005, but I intend to make the mac switch soon. Thanks ~ Pat Bollin

I’ve been waffling between traditional inking, Painter, and Manga Studio 4. Now that MS4 has an OSX / universal binary release, I use it a heap more. I was in the Beta for MS4; great bit of software.
